It was established in 1982 when the college system was created at Towson State University, now Towson University. This collection represents the creative works of Jonathan Leshnoff, composer and Towson University faculty member. Works begin in 1987 and continue into the present. The materials consist largely of musical sketches, drafts, and scores. Other materials include correspondence, composition references, ephemera, and recordings.

Abstract

Hank Levy (1927-2001) was a prominent jazz composer, saxophonist, and director of Towson University's jazz studies program from 1968 to 1989. This collection consists of musical charts used for performances as well as the annual Jazz Ensemble albums recorded on compact disc and vinyl.

Abstract Music was one of the first classes taught to students at the Maryland State Normal School, predecessor of Towson University, when it opened its doors in 1866. The focus of the program was primarily on offering education for classroom instruction. Later, music appreciation as well as instruction in the form of vocal and instrumental lessons were added.
